Lindsay & Eric

Eric

I’m 51 (currently) and a father of two great daughters. Currently, I am enjoying living this second half of my life. Since meeting Lindsay we’ve built a pretty great life together. We recently purchased our first house together, I quit a job that I had for over 20 years to join Lindsay’s company and work for her, and I am pursuing, and hopefully getting very soon, my license to become a real estate agent in Ohio. We love to travel and get out to experience all the world has to offer.

how did you meet?

We met on Tinder, actually.  Spent a couple of weeks getting to know each other before we actually had a date.

Lindsay

I don't know what to say about myself. I'm a small business owner who loves the life that I lead. So much of my education was preparing me for being a post-secondary educator  - specifically a Professor of Political Science - and I have managed to build a life where I spend most of my time in education. I love it! Being a business owner is a huge part of my identity and I have built a life around it that I love. Outside of my business, I'm an older sister to a 14 year old and a younger sister to the best big sister in the world - both of whom I love dearly. My mother recently remarried and gave me a new step father and 3 new younger brothers. We're a pretty close knit family and I wouldn't have it any other way.

There were a bunch of silly (and important) things that he did early in our relationship that led me to know he was the one. But the moment when I knew I knew was when we were sitting in his car listening to music, in front of his apartment building. We were picking songs to play for each other and I knew that I wanted to play the Foo Fighters song "Walking After You" for him and it was a huge moment of clarity for me that I didn't want to let this man go. I've always held on to relationships losely. Not wanting to be so engaged and entrenched that I couldn't easily let them go. At that moment I knew that I didn't want to do that with him.

I can’t say that I did a whole lot of planning, other than picking out the date to do it…Christmas. I did make sure to let my daughters know what I was about to do because it was important that they were excited for the moment too. Lindsay had asked for a jewelry box for Christmas, so I got a nice-sized one and a smaller travel-sized version.  I gave her a necklace and told her that it was to go in the larger jewelry box. When she opened the smaller one, I told her that she had to add something to it too, and that is when I presented her with the ring and asked her to marry me.

I was genuinely surprised. It was Christmas day 2020 and we were doing our gift exchange with just the 4 of us (me, Eric and his 2 daughters) and he was handing me my gifts. One of the gifts I was opening was a jewelry box for a necklace. I opened it and was remarking on how lovely it was and he said "oh, it has another part, but it comes with a question" and I was so confused until I looked over at him and he was on one knee with a ring in his hand. As per usual, I started laughing hysterically and crying. I was shocked. Of course,

I Said Yes!
